Firework Safety

We all want our families to be safe this Fourth of July. Help protect your children during this year’s firework fun by practicing these “eyesmart” firework tips.

        • Never let children play with fireworks of any kind. Even sparklers. Sparklers burn at 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit!
        • View fireworks from at least 500 ft away.
        • Respect safety barriers set up to allow pyrotechnicians to do their jobs safely.
        • If you find unexploded fireworks, do not touch them.
        • If you sustain an eye injury, seek help from an Ophthalmologist right away.

If you are planning on enjoying fireworks at your home, be sure that you and your family wear protective eyewear. Clear the area of flammable materials and keep a safe distance from lit fireworks. The fact is that 25% of all firework-related eye injuries result in permanent vision loss.

Happy Fourth of July from the Doctor’s and staff of the Eye Physicians of Austin!
